We found that a collaborative network of authors has formed in this field; the journals publishing SMTE articles belong to the fields of biomaterials and tissue engineering, and open-access journals have played a key role in the promotion of the development of SMTE; and in the past decade, there has been rapid progress in SMTE research in terms of both depth and breadth. Impact statement Compared with the literature review method, bibliometrics can provide a comprehensive knowledge of a knowledge area based on a huge amount of literature.
