Research on University Liberal Arts Education Methods Using Cultural Content: Focusing on Trans-media Storytelling use cases

This study sought to develop a university liberal arts education plan using trans-media storytelling to foster trans-media literacy necessary in the era of convergence culture and digital media. First, we looked at trans-media literacy and trans-media storytelling. Next, through an analysis of director Yeon Sang-ho’s ‘Train to Busan’ series, this content is based on various media and platforms, each has its own independent narrative surrounding a single world view, and each narrative contributes to the overall story, making it an educational field. It was demonstrated that domestic transmedia text examples that can be used in are sufficient. Lastly, an educational plan using transmedia storytelling (Approach: Experience and understanding of various media and platforms - Analysis: Understanding and analyzing the story - Creation: New story composition) was prepared focusing on the ‘Train to Busan’ series and applied to actual classes. As a result, the educational potential to cultivate trans-media literacy skills such as flexibility to interact across media, cultural enjoyment, analytical thinking ability to analyze and fuse complex-style texts, imagination and storytelling ability, and critical thinking ability was confirmed.
