EFFECTS OF WORKERS FATIGUE ON QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP AND PRODUCTIVITY: A STUDY OF SITE OPERATIVES IN GHANA
Construction site works involves the exertion of considerable effort to accomplish most tasks leading to fatigue. The aim of was to assess the effects of' fatigue on quality of workmanship and productivity of site operatives. Structured questionnaire was administered to 170 construction site operatives. The findings revealed that inadequate breaks, mental exertion, and illnesses have long-term impacts on the human body, leading to poor health conditions. The study recommends working with health and safety officers and supervisors to assess work schedules and workloads, as well as providing adequate environmental conditions for workers on project sites. It also suggests providing adequate reward and motivation, anonymous reporting of problematic workloads, and adequate breaks for extended working hours to minimize fatigue. Ensuring adequate breaks and long working hours can boost workers' motivation and overall well-being. Finally, the study recommends that the social lifestyle, smoking, and alcohol status of employees be checked before employment. Aside from that, employees taking certain medications should be checked and advised before employment to influence workers output on the construction site Keywords: Fatigue, Construction operatives, Productivity, Ghana.
