The stage is set for virtual nursing, an innovative nurse practice model that layers an experienced nurse onto the care team to support the bedside nurse. Although this model of nursing care delivery is enabled by technology, the nursing workflow assessments and redesign are key to ensure the model of the technology supports efficiency and does not cause additional workload. Virtual nursing implementation requires a high degree of planning and consultation with bedside nurses to ensure workflows introducing technology are seamless.
