Clip Thinking: Reflection on Adapting to the Transforming Reality
The author of the article reasons that clip thinking does not tend to be a new phenomenon of our time. Clip thinking appears to be a way of working with information. Actually, it is a reaction to the finiteness of “channel capacity” of a human in the infnite world of information and a mechanism of adaptation of human psychic to the new changes. Clip thinking is considered as a protective mechanism (as it saves human from overloads and allows to receive larger volume of information) and a way of adapting to the reality. This kind of thinking may appear at any age in case one works with colossal amounts of information. 45+ generation is regarded as the most competitive in analytical work with big data due to their skills in linear, logical and clip thinking at the same time. The article features the arguments for the positive consequences of clip thinking. As paradoxical it may sound, clip thinking may contribute to the creative and independent thinking development in a human. A “zone of proximal development” concept by L.S. Vygotsky is proposed for usage in order to avoid the negative consequences of clip thinking.
