ATUAÇÃO E IMPORTÂNCIA DA PSICO-ONCOLOGIA

Cancer, as well as its medical treatment, leads to a wide variety of physical and psychosocial problems and, in general, cancer patients are not prepared to deal with the psychological and emotional burden that accompanies the diagnosis of cancer and which only increases with age. time if not treated properly. Thus, psycho-oncology has emerged as an interdisciplinary field with the aim of addressing these issues and providing support for these patients. In this context, this study aims to describe the importance of psycho-oncology in the treatment of cancer patients. It was found that, when the individual is diagnosed with an oncological disease, only physical care cannot be offered, as it is a multifactorial disease, where emotions play a fundamental role. It is concluded, therefore, that the need for psycho-oncology is undeniable, especially in addressing the psychological responses to cancer, such as the initial trauma, denial, anxiety, depression, fear, anger and other manifestations during the various treatment phases.
