This type of research is quantitative research with experimental methods. The experimental design used is factorial design. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sample technique. The instruments used to collect data were performance tests and questionnaire sheets. Based on the research conducted, it was concluded that the group investigation method assisted by audiovisual media influenced the news text writing skills of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Padang Panjang. This media can be used by teachers in other writing lessons. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pengaruh metode group investigation berbantuan media audiovisual dan metode ekspositori terhadap keterampilan menulis. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen. Desain eksperimen yang digunakan adalah factorial design . Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sample . Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data berupa tes unjuk kerja dan lembar angket. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa metode group investigation berbantuan media audiovisual memengaruhi keterampilan menulis teks berita siswa kelas kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Padang Panjang.
