Seven stories of the collection are taken for analysis, in which the image of a child plays a key role in semantic and compositional terms. The paper attempts to classify the analyzed stories from the point of view of the meaning of the child's image. This image is considered from the point of view of its folklore sources, in particular – in the context of the heat features of the bylichek and post-folklore «creepy stories». The image of the child is analyzed as an important compositional element that allows you to create the effect of «terrible», as part of the other world. The article also discusses some psychological prerequisites that allow including the image of a child in stories based on mystical horror.
