Methodology: is based on the analysis of scientific sources on the duration of the strategy and the observation of business practices in this direction through surveys of enterprises on approaches to the formation of a strategy and the actual implementation of planned indicators. Findings: of the study showed that the implementation of a strategy is often associated with a revision of its main provisions and early abandonment in favor of a new one. This practice indicates the actual rejection of long-term planning in favor of medium-term or rolling planning. The strategy implementation period differs from the canonical five-year one.
