Thyroidectomy: 3D anatomy

Thyroidectomies are performed routinely by the head and neck surgeon, especially for neoplastic disease. Adequate vascular control has been key in avoiding damage to surrounding structures that may lead to vocal cord paralysis and hypothyroidism. Here, we review pertinent anatomical structures in the anterior neck and the thyroid through a cadaveric model presented in 3D with stereographic imaging.
