Internet of Things (IoT) is being used more and more nowadays. While this makes our lives much easier, offering modern solutions like smart homes or cars, it also brings new security issues in this area: sensors and other similar IoT devices with scarce resources and functionality have limited ways of providing appropriate security, and every day there is an increasing number of malicious users taking advantage of this. As providing per-device protection is difficult or even impossible, a much better solution would be to do this in centralized manner, from the network router all local IoT devices are connected to. In this paper we propose a router-level IoT security method using a Raspberry Pi configured as a network router. We describe the necessary steps to conFigure the proposed security infrastructure, some possible attacks (e.g. SQL-injection, DoS, brute-force attacks) and defense strategies we developed against them.
