It provides intensive specialist support for patients with life-threatening complications resulting from severe brain damage or illness including respiratory support and mechanical ventilation and cardiovascular therapies to optimize cerebral perfusion. New technologies, therapies, and philosophy of care are constantly changing to improve neurological recovery and outcomes. Practitioners must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to care for these patients and their families/carers during the acute illness episode.
