Evaluation of Data Forwarding Methods For Fish Farm Monitoring System With Energy Harvesting
We have proposed a fish farm monitoring system that collects information from sensors attached to farmed fish in a fish cage. The power for operation of sensor terminal depends on its battery. If the battery runs out of power, it will be impossible to monitor farmed fish. It is not desirable to replace the battery of a sensor terminal because of the cost of replacing the battery and the possibility of damaging the fish body when the replacement is done. Therefore, extending the lifetime of the battery installed in the sensor terminal is an important issue. In this paper, we consider introducing a energy harvesting technology, which is a technology that converts the small amount of energy present in the environment into electricity, to our monitoring system to be able to recharge the battery. In addition, we investigate the impact of data forwarding methods on data collection performance and power consumption in our fish farm monitoring system with energy harvesting. Through simulation evaluations, we clarify the basic characteristics of data forwarding methods in our system.
