The novelty of the paper consists in how the three well-known software applications were combined to calculate the geographical center of a country. The most important step was how GIMP was used for translating the map from Google Earth to AutoCAD. An estimation of the accuracy of this method is also presented. A discussion on ways to increase the accuracy also appears in the paper. The country used throughout the paper for testing the method was Romania.
