Failure Mode and Effects Analysis of a new telemonitoring system
The Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a reliability engineering tool that is mostly used in the automotive and aeronautical industry, but during the recent years has also been integrated to various fields, such as electronic equipment and software. This paper will present the application of the FMEA methodology for the evaluation of an innovative design for a remote monitoring system. The system will be analyzed according to the FMEA methodology to identify the major concerns and determine corrective actions, in order to mitigate or eliminate the effects of potential failures on the system. Several improvement measures are identified in order to optimize the initial design, based on the risk evaluation using the risk priority number (RPN). Future developments based on the results of the analysis are also discussed.
