A low cost trigger frequency alterable ultra-wide band ambipolar pulses generator
A trigger frequency alterable and low cost ultra-wide band (UWB) ambipolar pulses generator using step recovery diodes (SRD) has been developed and tested. This pulse generator can produce both positive and negative picoseconds pulses at the same time. Triggered by source signal from 100 Hz to 10 MHz, the output pulses are nearly the same. The parameters of the positive pulse is 250ps rise time (10%-90%), 250ps width (50%-50%), 250ps fall time (10%-90%), and 4.35V peak amplitude, while that of the negative pulse is 300 ps rise time (10%-90%), 250 ps width (50%-50%) and 150 ps fall time (10%-90%), and -3.16 V peak amplitude. The circuit is all made up of inexpensive components, and it can be used in UWB sampling circuits as sampling pulse generator.
