On the basis of a comprehension of those complicated structures with nominalization, the authors of this paper have, under a cognitive-functional framework with Systematic Functional Linguistics and Cognitive Linguistics, attempted to recognize the cognitive mechanism underlying the process of nominalization and to crystalize its functions at ideational, interpersonal and textual levels, expounding the inherent relations in the semantic and lexico grammatical structures demonstrated in nominalization. Translation methods at the different levels are proposed, with sufficient supporting examples from the source text.
