Family Memory and Historical Identity: can they be Considered Good Ways to Define Identity

The article discusses the problem of defining modern forms of identity. As conditions for its formation, the potential of family memory and the past as a whole is analyzed. The prospects of historical identity as a way of forming modern identity are determined. It is argued that in a situation of dominance and justification of intergenerational gaps, family memory cannot be considered a necessary condition for the formation of an identity that claims to be public and universal. It is argued that historical identity in the context of the preservation and spread of national identity also cannot become a necessary and universal form of modern identity. In conclusion, the thesis is put forward that moral identity should be considered the preferred way of identity formation.
