This paper proposes a novel maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control approach to IPMSM based on signal injection. This method makes use of a step angle to improve the speed of tracking MTPA points. The step angle is calculated from the response signal of the signal injection method, which only requires original motor parameters. Moreover, this paper also proposes a torque estimation method which applies to step angle control.
