Wireless Signal Propagation Study in an Experiment Building for Optimized Wireless Asset Tracking System Development
The main objective of the current work is to investigate the wireless signal propagation at 2.4 GHz in an indoor environment. The measurement is done based in Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) power using XBEE S2 wireless module connected to a gateway. The RSSI measurement is used to indicate the profile of signal propagating alongside a fixed path within a fixed environmental surrounding such as furniture, equipment, and number of people inside the room. From this experiment, a map of the indoor office was created with precise measurements to allow for a greater analysis of the signal propagation given that the furniture and number of people are fixed. The purpose is to analyze and evaluate the signal propagation properties for optimization of nodes placements and application in future in regards of a wireless asset tracking system. The results show that through careful analyzation and investigation, of the signal propagation using XBee S2, an optimized location for nodes placement in an indoor environment can be determined in order to allow greater efficiency and accuracy in an indoor localization system.
