Design experiences on the budapest green space development plan

Budapest's green space system is essential for a healthy and liveable urban environment, for reducing the burden of climate change, and for creating and maintaining resilience. Green spaces directly and indirectly improve the physical and mental health, mental balance and well-being of the population; therefore, it is key factor of the city's livea-bilty, population retention and economic competitiveness. As a result of several years of planning and coordination process, in March 2021, the Municipality of Budapest approved the Dezső Radó Plan, the first gap-filling green space development and maintenance strategy of Budapest approved by the municipality. The purpose of this article is to summarize and evaluate the five-year planning process, the design challenges, and methodological experience to provide support for other municipal green infrastructure plans of similar scale and complexity in the future.
