Diagnostic Assessment of the Competency Maturity of Electrical Engineers Through Profession-oriented Problems
The paper deals with the problem of assessing the maturity of electrical engineering students regarding both professional (the ability to apply existing methods, techniques, technologies to solve engineering problems in electrical energetics, electrical engineering and electromechanics, the ability to develop and implement measures to improve the equipment reliability and operation) and general competencies (the ability to apply knowledge in workplace situations, make informed decisions, identify and estimate risks, the ability to use abstract thinking, analysis and synthesis) during their training in a higher technical institution. Various types of profession-oriented problems have been developed and suggested, such as general theoretical, cognitive, operational and evaluative ones. According to the research, the use of profession-oriented problems that are closely connected with the real manufacturing process makes it possible to design changes to educational programs for training professionals in a particular field as well as to assess the readiness of electrical engineering students to carry out their professional duties in a real workplace.
