Axisymmetric Gregorian Reflector System for a Space-Deployed Inflatable Antenna: Simulations and Measurements
An axisymmetric array-fed confocal parabolic Gregorian reflector antenna system for potential space deployment is explored. The simulated antenna at Ku-band utilizes a planar array located near the vertex of the primary reflector. Numerical electromagnetic simulations based on the multilevel fast multipole method (MLFMM) were used to analyze and optimize the antenna parameters for fixed on-axis peak directivity performance at Ku-band. Simulations of the radiation pattern performance of the dual reflector system with a 2.4m diameter primary reflector and 0.25m diameter subreflector operating at Ku band are presented. Compact range measurements of a prototype inflatable reflector system with an X-band horn-lens feed are compared with simulations.
