In this paper we describe the design, realization and characterization phase lock loop (PLL)-based, X-band microwave generators, which are fundamental elements in any high frequency electronic system operating in this band. In this paper we describe an X-band (7.2 GHz) generator, which has been designed, realized and characterized in our laboratory using commercial microwave integrated circuits (MMIC's). The realized X-band generators have been characterized on their parameters of signal purity, phase noise and frequency stability.
