Knowledge of scripting languages along with code-reading skills is imperative to effectively execute maintenance projects. This paper outlines some of the higher order challenges faced by an IT graduate in learning scripting language from a project perspective or as an additional skill set. It also proposes a blended model to impart training on scripting language with focus on benchmarked ways of design and development of client relevant training material. Training effectiveness and learning outcomesaremeasured using Kirkpatrick model. Collated statistics shows a high degree of improvement in grades, substantial reduction in number of code defects and tangible business benefits to the organization.
