The present study analyses household water consumption patterns in Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Population growth and economic development has increased the level of water demand and scarcity. The researcher analysed per day-end use of water, and surveyed households in developed and developing regions on the water used. Households in the various developed regions have extracted more water as compared to households in the developing regions. Thus, the economic status of the region decides the usage of water. The quality of water is reported as poor and only a few term it as moderate. The respondents report that available bore wells and water tanks do not serve the needs of the growing population. Therefore, the government has to construct additional water infrastructure to solve the drinking water problem, particularly in developing regions.
