Interaction energy of emulsion droplets and the influence of adsorbed layers on it
The equilibrium distance, contact angle, and formation velocity of black films between model droplets in aqueous solution of surface-active agent were measured. These variables produced information about the forces of interaction between the droplets. The concentration of the surface-active agent was increased to determine the effects of surface concentration upon the above forces, for small and wide particle spacings with reference to the thickness of the adsorbed layers. All experiments proved that by stepping up the concentration of the surface active agent the attraction between the particles was increased and, consequently the stability reduced.
