An Active ZigBee-Based RFID System Reduces IT Uncertain Impact to Firm Performance

Multiple changes are taking place in global information technology (IT) industry since its beginning. IT can have positive impacts on firm performance by many researches, although it has some uncertainty. However, few mention industry-dependent characteristics in the uncertainty to performance. From empirical studies, this paper reveals that industry-dependent market structures such as semiconductor industry can boost leaders and initially frustrate the weaker competitors with excellent IT impacts on firm performance; but the proposed ZigBee-based active RFID system can defeat the leaders without wireless sensor networks through leading cost efficiency in long-term.
