In this paper, some design criteria of this kind of motor are presented, focusing on the high performance applications. Different aspects in its design are presented, highlighting the main applications in which it presents the best performance: high-torque, low inertia, high dynamics. Thanks to the anisotropy of the rotor, this kind of motor is suitable for flux-weakening operations, thus it is used for high-speed applications such as machine tools or electrical vehicles.
