This review presents a comparison between a recent African study and a study that serves as a leading light in sociolinguistics. Employing phonological variation studies as the methodology with the data purposively selected, this study discusses the variation studied by (Labov, 1966), (Cyril et al, 2014). The study reveals the results of studies conducted in similar ways but yields varying results.
