Akram","doi":"10.1109/MTTW56973.2022.9942622","DOIUrl":null,"url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, an ultra-wide-band square circular (SC) shaped monopole antenna with a single-layer frequency selective surface (FSS) is presented. The proposed structure consists of square circular geometry operating in ultra-wide bandwidth up to 146%. To improve the gain, the FSS surface is employed below the radiating element which consists of a 6×6 arrangement of a unit cell having a size of 10mm × 10mm. The proposed unit cell has band stop response ranges from 3.3 GHz to 10.5 GHz. The UWB SC antenna with an FSS reflector demonstrated an improvement in gain from 2 dB to 5 dB in the lower band and from 4 dB to 8 dB in the upper band. The overall size of FSS based antenna is $62.5\\text{mm}\\times 62.5\\text{mm}\\times 1.6$ mm.
