DISCOURSE ANALYSIS IN POLITICAL LINGUISTICS: HISTORY AND PRESENT

Since the end of the 20th century, political discourse has not only been a political, but also a linguistic and cultural problem, which is closely related to the development of democracy, the social culture of society and the rapid development of the media. The political discourse develops inproportion to the strengthening of democracy as a special form of communication. Today more than ever in politics, language is used not only as a tool for forming and expressing thoughts, but also as a means of hiding these thoughts and thus manipulating public consciousness.This paper illustrates the formation and development of a discursive approach to the analysis of political communication. Discourse analysis is considered in the article as an important methodological basis of modern research in the field of political linguistics, the tools of which allow a comprehensive analysis of political communication including the language plan, the plan of thinking and sociopolitical realities. The relevance of this approach is primarily due to the pragmatic orientation of political communication, which aims to control public opinion and impose politician's opinion on the people.Based on the work of leading scholars, the article defines the concept of discourse, as well as clarifies the concepts of public and political discourse, which are important for further research in the field of political linguistics.
