Comparative Study of Growth Performances New Zealand Young Rabbits Breed Fed by Forages Only and Forages Supplemented by Wheat Bran
A comparative study was carried out in G.S. Amitie Jomba, secondary school, Nyabihu District, Shyira sector, Rwanda, 2013 to compare the growth performances of young rabbits fed by forages and those fed by forages supplemented by wheat bran. The study started by the distribution of young rabbits while choosing ones of good zootechnic performances, these young rabbits were divided in two butches of 12 individuals each. After constitution of butches we have performed the feeding, watering, control of performances, programme of breeding and treatment and analysis of data obtained during weighing of young rabbits. The results of our study show that the witness butch gave the average daily weight gain of 9.8g while the experimental butch gave the average daily weight gain of 21g. According to carcass yield, the average carcass weight for slaughtered rabbits of experimental butch is 1.5kg while for the witness butch is 0.95kg. The average carcass yield is superior for the experimental butch (60.6%) compared to the witness butch (58.9%).
