Oller-Compacted Concrete Incorperating Superplastisizer and Viscous Agent For Pavements
Roller compacted concrete (RCC) for pavement is dry concrete and is prone to segregation between the mortar component and coarse aggregate during construction practice. It is important to improve the segregation resistance and also to improve the other properties. The poly-carboxylate type air-entraining high range water-reducing admixture (AHW) used in this experiment was mixed with an acrylic acid type viscous agent at the percentage of 5 to 20% by weight of AHW. Some properties were compared using a conventional water reducing agent and the following resuts were obtained. 1) Much of the unit water content was reduced for a given consistency and the segregation resistance was improved without a substantial increase in the sand percentage. 2) Frost resistance could be improved by adding an air-entraining agent. 3) Drying shrinkage was reduced and flexural strength was increased at the ages of 1 to 28 days.
