Teaching mathematics online: Studies focusing on student mathematical communication
The current Covid-19 virus in Indonesia has an impact on the learning process. The implementation of distance/online learning is implemented to provide a meaningful learning experience for students. This study aims to explore how students communicate mathematically in their learning activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Each student's perception is different when receiving and processing information. Students' cognitive abilities refer to how they feel, think, and understand their world through communication and from the learning process they have gone through. A total of 9 students participated in this study. Students are given online questions involving 10 items. This study uses a qualitative approach, especially observation using video recording as the main method. Powell's model analysis will be used to analyze the recorded video. Video analysis in the coding phase was carried out using the communication analysis of Sfard and Kienan, namely focused analysis and arrow analysis. The results showed that some people do not succeed in mathematics due to the lack of special cognitive abilities due to the ineffectiveness of online teaching and learning. Intrigued by the matter, we were told that he works at home, where he is sometimes assisted by his father or whoever it is. © 2022 Author(s).
