Ishtiaq, Muhammad Nasser","doi":"10.5455/sajem.020203","DOIUrl":null,"url":null,"abstract":"OBJECTIVE \n \nThe purpose of the study is to review the clinical characteristics of patients suspected of swine flu and their disposition in the emergency department of a tertiary care hospital. \n \nMETHODOLOGY \nRetrospective chart review of the patients suspected of swine flu presenting to the emergency department of Shifa International Hospital from January 2018 to February 2019 was done. The data was taken from infection control department and files of the patient were reviewed from medical record department. Frequency and percentages were calculated using SPSS version 23. Ethical approval was taken. \n \nRESULTS \n59 patients were enrolled in the study out of which 29 (49%) were positive for either H1N1, flu A or Flu B most of which were adults. The common presenting features were cough (96%), dyspnoea (75%), tachypnoea (76%) and fever (48%). Influenza A had the highest incidence (65%) among all cases. Eight patients (27.6%) were discharged from the emergency department whereas twenty-one (72.4%) patients were offered admission with five patients being admitted in the critical unit. \n \nCONCLUSION \nCases of swine flu are reported every year across the country. Mortality rates are higher among the patients with a diagnosis delay. 摘要
目的:回顾性分析某三级医院急诊疑似猪流感患者的临床特点及其处置情况。方法回顾性分析2018年1月至2019年2月在什法市国际医院急诊科就诊的疑似猪流感患者。数据来自感染控制科,患者档案来自病案科。使用SPSS version 23计算频率和百分比。通过了伦理审批。结果:59例患者入组研究,其中29例(49%)为H1N1、甲型流感或乙型流感阳性,其中大多数为成年人。常见的临床表现为咳嗽(96%)、呼吸困难(75%)、呼吸急促(76%)和发烧(48%)。甲型流感在所有病例中发病率最高(65%)。8例患者(27.6%)从急诊科出院,21例患者(72.4%)入院,其中5例患者入住危重病房。结论:全国每年都有猪流感病例报告。诊断延误的患者死亡率较高。需要在不同的医院之间进行进一步的研究,以获得关于猪流感流行和早期识别的更精确的数据。
