As a modern mass communication medium, the film plays an overriding role in cross-cultural communication between different cultures. However, the ever-ballooning domestic demand in China for international films sheds light on the importance of subtitle translation. Yet, cultural differences make it hard to translate many culture-loaded words with unique national hallmarks in the original films. Revolving around the 1987 film The Last Emperor, this paper selects several typical representative culture-loaded words from the film subtitles. This paper examines factors that may sway the selection of translation tactics for culture-loaded words through the lens of domestication and foreignization. In addition, it delves into the translation methods for translating such words. 摘要

在全球化背景下,世界相互依存,国与国之间的跨文化交流比以往更加频繁。电影作为一种现代大众传播媒介,在不同文化间的跨文化交流中起着举足轻重的作用。然而,中国国内对国际电影不断膨胀的需求也说明了字幕翻译的重要性。然而,由于文化差异,原电影中许多具有独特民族特色的文化词汇难以翻译。本文围绕1987年的电影《末代皇帝》,从电影字幕中选取了几个具有代表性的典型文化负载词。本文从归化和异化两个角度探讨了影响文化负载词翻译策略选择的因素。此外,还探讨了这类词语的翻译方法。这样做是希望能够忠实地传达语言背后的文化内涵,从而更好地促进国家和民族之间的文化交流。
