A novel QoS scheme for handoffs in wireless IP networks
Next generation Internet will have wireless access to the network. Fast technology development assures that Internet in the future will include many mobile portable devices moving in a micro-cellular network. We are defining a novel scheme for improving handoff performances in wireless IP networks by using handoff agents (HAg) established at base stations and cross-over nodes of the network. Handoff agents are rerouting the packets during the handoff from the old towards the new base station via core links. This algorithm gives better performances on different traffic flows compared to other handoff schemes. It performs smooth handoff without duplicate packets and gives zero handoff packet losses, adding negligible packet delay during the handoff. Also, the algorithm does not load the Internet with the control traffic by performing handoffs within the current user domain.
