Ship location detection using wireless sensor networks with cooperative nodes
Surveillance over a busy harbor is importance for protection and security. Every ship that comes in and out the harbor should be monitored real time. Monitoring of every ship can be conducted by gathering information of the ship, such as speed and location. However, the speed and location of illegal ships are difficult to be gathered because they usually turn the Automatic Identification System (AIS) signal off. In this paper, we develop ship location detection using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). We use four cooperative sensor nodes to detect ship-generated wave. Assuming that each sensor is equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS), we derive a new formulation to compute location of the illegal ships. The new formula is able to locate the ship in three different directions. We also quantify the necessary conditions of ship location detection.
