The Collective Influence of Online Games and Gaming Behavior to Academic Performance in a Flipped Database Management Course
The demand of the industry for knowledge workers with skills in new database technologies are prompting academic institutions to invest in developing responsive course curriculums along with the appropriate pedagogical approach for students. To address this predicament, several works of literature support the implementation of flipped classroom methodology where the student can learn independently through the help of a learning management system, while the teacher provides an outcome-based evaluation and activities. However, learning independently through the guide of computers and internet contents might expose the learners to a lot of unwarranted distractions. One of these distractions is playing online games. This study attempts to explore the influence of playing online games and the respective gaming behavior of learners while going through a flipped class of the database management course.
