An Innovative Assisted Living Technology for Short-Term Memory Training at Home
Along with the sweeping wave of aging, the prevalence of dementia increases rapidly with the aging of the population of which people with short-term memory impairment or disability resulting in the loss of self-care ability in their personal lives, and in particular soaring medical and social costs. The traditional centralized medical healthcare mode is mostly concentrated in large hospitals or institutions. With the limitations of policies and subsidies, resources cannot effectively enter the home environment. The reality of population imbalance and high old-age dependency ratio also causes that home care is merely a slogan and difficult to put into practice. Thanks to the rapid growth of information and communication technology in recent years. Many innovative R&D and cross-domain applications can now be effectively applied to the development of assisted living technology for the healthcare of elders. To improve the self-care ability and to slow down the of elderly patients living alone with mild cognitive impairment and slow down the process of degeneration speed of dementia, this study built a memory training set and daily activity reminder module. It used smart phone as a gear and beacon technology combined with mobile computing and positioning technology, to carry out real-time fragmented learning and determine the training objective location. With the support of IOT-Assisted Living Technology, patients with momentary memory loss can live independently. Furthermore, it can reduce the waste of social resources caused by the excessive concentration in medical institutions, and effectively improve the quality of home care and create a self-help environment with self-esteem for the elderly.
