Voltage events detection using wavelet transform for power quality applications
Voltage sags and switching transients are the most common power quality disturbances which affect many customers in the distribution system. Detection methods are required to quantify these aspects of the quality of the power supply. Voltage sags and switching transient which occur at higher voltages will normally spread through a utility system and will be transmitted to lower voltage systems. In this paper, voltage disturbance detection technique has been introduced using Wavelet Transform (WT). Suggested method is examined for refinery distribution power system developed in PSCAD/EMTDC software. Results, obtained for capacitor switching and faults, are used for wavelet analysis which is done using MATLAB. Simulation results generated under different operating conditions shows effectiveness of the presented method.
