Entre riquezas e pobrezas: a expansão da escola paulista no contexto da república
This article aims to make an initial discussion about the Sao Paulo school expansion in the situation of the emergence, solidification and development of the Brazilian republican period, trying to understand how the economic potential of Sao Paulo historically influenced the expanded school education. Based on a bibliographical analysis, its results show that, despite the state economic development (initially, with the sugar cane and coffee culture and, later, in the industrial and technological field) and the accumulated wealth, the state school was progressively disqualified in the same proportion as it was democratizing. Thus, in view of the need to socialize the school, as a tool for the state economic development and to attend to population pressure due to schooling, this process materialized with different times and qualities according to the social class that the child belonged.
