Determination of The Methods Used By Patients Using Insulin To Avoid Injection Pain And Their Compliance With Treatment
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the knowledge levels of DM patients about the disease and insulin use, and their practices to avoid insulin injection pain. Materials and Methods: Data were collected from 399 patients who administered insulin injections in the study. Patient identification form, disease and treatment compliance form, Morisky-8 Treatment Adherence Scale (MMAS-8), and Visual Analog Scale were used for data collection. Results: According to our findings, it was found that 83.7% of the patients included in the study rotated during insulin injection, but only 16.3% rotated during each injection. 46.4% of the patients did not feel pain or were injected into the area where they felt less pain to avoid insulin pain. In addition, it was determined that the pain scores of the patients who made each insulin injection to a different body region were higher. It has been determined that patients with complications related to DM have higher adherence to treatment. Conclusion: As a result, it was determined that the patients had limited knowledge about diabetes, insulin, and treatment, they did not perform rotation to avoid the pain of insulin injection, and they generally injected into the painless area, and their compliance with the treatment was low. Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, pain, adherence to treatment, insulin injection, nursing care
