The approach is cross-layer in that the optimization criterion is an energy efficiency metric defined in terms of the system throughput, thereby taking into account both data link and physical layer parameters. An iterative algorithm, which reduces the complexity associated with the optimal exhaustive search method, is proposed. Simulation results show that correlation reduces the energy efficiency and throughput of the MIMO system at high signal to noise ratio (SNR) values.
