The study finds that the chairman's hometown identity can positively promote the firm's ESG performance.,  This paper explores the moderating effects of hometown identity and firm ESG performance from the perspective of online media attention and financing constraints. The results show that the companies with low online media attention and high financing constraints tend to have poor ESG performance, and the chairman's hometown identity can effectively improve the ESG performance of these two types of companies. The results show that encouraging entrepreneurs return to their  hometowns to start their businesses and considering hometown identity when hiring can improve the ESG performance of enterprises. 摘要

本文基于2008 - 2021年沪深两市a股上市公司高管数据,构建董事长家乡认同,并实证检验其对ESG绩效的影响。研究发现,董事长家乡认同对公司ESG绩效有正向促进作用。本文从网络媒体关注和融资约束的角度探讨了家乡认同对企业ESG绩效的调节作用。研究结果表明,网络媒体关注度低、融资约束程度高的公司,其ESG绩效往往较差,董事长的家乡认同能有效提升这两类公司的ESG绩效。结果表明,鼓励企业家返乡创业,在招聘时考虑家乡认同,能够提高企业的ESG绩效。本研究不仅拓宽了非正式机构高层管理的视角,也为ESG绩效的提升提供了有力的科学依据。
