Design of wireless smart chair system for people with cognitive deficiency
This article describes a sensor-based wireless system which monitors sitting postures of a person with cognitive impairment, assesses risks and alarms both the person and his caregiver if the risk of falling is high. Unlike existing smart chairs, the proposed system identifies postures that might cause a person to fall from chair by using minimal number of sensors and a simple posture classification algorithm. Experimental evaluation shows that the system operates in real-time, is robust yet inexpensive.
