A Study on the Relationship Between Mental Health and Oral Symptoms of Self-Supported Workers

Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the mental health of self-supporting workers and to verify their relationship with oral symptoms. Methods: The research was conducted from November 1, 2021 to January 30, 2022, and included 691 self-supporting personnel working in local self-sufficiency centers. Items related to depression, insomnia, anxiety, somatic symptoms, and oral symptoms were investigated. The data were analyzed with the chi-square test and logistic regression, using IBM SPSS version 25 software. Results: The level of depression was 5.92 times higher than moderate severe and level of somatic symptoms was 10.96 times higher than severe with dry mouth having the highest level. Insomnia was 4.28 times higher than severe the anxiety level was 5.04 times higher than severe and toothache had the highest level. Conclusions: Follow-up research on the oral symptoms of self-supporting workers belonging to the mental health risk group is needed. Establishment of an oral health status condition for self-supporting workers is also necessary
