In the technical course on the Environment at the Federal Institute of Piauí, notably at the Buriti dos Montes Pole - PI, these concerns arise along with questions about how to combine theory with practice from the perspective of quality distance learning. In this way, the general objective of the research was to know the vision of the students of the Technical Course in Environment of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Piauí - Polo Buriti dos Montes, in relation to the challenges of access and permanence faced during the course to distance. The methodological direction was included in the qualitative research aspect and the production of data was carried out through the application of a questionnaire to 25 students of the mentioned course. Bardin's (1979) content analysis technique was used to organize and analyze the data found. The observational analyzes and the testimonies of the students reveal that, when participating in this experience in distance education, they began to conceive this teaching modality as a facilitator of learning and a trainer of research students, allowing the construction of the autonomy of the participants. According to some students, distance learning is advantageous due to the flexibility of schedules and few face-to-face classes.
