Estimation of Specific Attenuation Due to Dust Storms Based on Variation of different parameters at the X, Ku and Ka Bands
The attenuation caused by dust particles is one of the major problems in the utilization of microwave and millimeter wave bands for terrestrial and space communication. In this paper, the specific attenuation of the signal due to dust storms based on Mie scattering based model is estimated at X, Ka, and Ku bands. This model is simulated using MATLAB software based on the dielectric constant of Libyan dust particles with value of 6.3485+j0.0929. The signal attenuation is computed with variation of visibility for different values of humidity and radius of dust particles; and the signal attenuation versus frequency is simulated for different values of humidity. The signal attenuation with variation of visibility at X, Ku, and Ka bands is compared based on the worst values of dust particle radius of 40 $\mu$m and humidity of 80 %, to identify a suitable dust attenuation to get the reliable wireless communication system The specific attenuation values are compared Based the dielectric constant that reported in literatures and that measured in Libya.
